Qualitative Feedback from American National Government Evaluations

  • …I have taken multiple political science classes from multiple universities and this professor was by far the best. He engaged every student in talking about issues. Everyone participated and thought deeply about the current events and classroom material. He taught with enthusiasm and used multiple elements to help better engage all the students.

  • I think he brought great energy to the class everyday, which I thought was the most important aspect because it felt like he wanted to be there which helped my motivation as a student to learn.

  • Adam is very good at keeping his opinions to himself and respecting the opinions of his students even if they seemed ignorant and not well thought-out. He also was very good at providing a variety of learning opportunities. We participated in activities anywhere from discussions, group problem-solving, to working in pairs.

  • The instructor was very easy to understand. He made the entire course easy to learn, I came in not knowing much about government or politics and I am walking out knowing what 70% of U.S. citizens don't even know about. The curriculum itself was awesome as well, the essays helped get a better understanding by writing a paper and daily quizzes would measure how good we were learning.

  • Adam did a great job of explaining government in a way that made sense and was easy to comprehend. I really enjoyed how he allowed for open conversation and encouraged the class to share their viewpoints. He is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of American Government. During our daily current events he always provided further insight into each topic which was useful to understand what was happening in the world around us. His teaching style was great. He made a topic that has never been interesting to me, very interesting and even want to explore Political Science further

  • The class covers a wide array of topics without going too in-depth to be confusing. Also, it was great to be able to simulate the workings of our government by splitting the class into groups; most Professors fail to deliver this level of student participation while still remaining fun and informative. Lastly, I appreciated your ability to appear neutral when discussing political opinions, it encourages students to think for themselves rather than just automatically accepting someone else's views on the matter.

  • Very prepared and doesn’t just recite slides all day

  • Positive attitude, well prepared, knows the subject of National Government very well.

  • I loved this class. What could have been a very boring subject was quite interesting because of the [Adam’s] knowledge of and passion for everything that was taught. He was great at staying neutral and using many different types of examples to explain things. If someone didn't understand something he wouldn't explain it the same way but would find a different way to explain things for that student to understand. I liked the fact that he was knowledgeable in every subject we covered. The incorporation of current events and they way they were discussed in class was very open and conversation-like, which made it interesting.

  • [Adam] is genuinely interested in his students success. This cannot be understated. He is the reason I enjoyed this class. He relates to his students in a way that warrants respect and intrigue into the material. So rarely does a professor not merely lecture, but form a connection with his students like [he] has done.

  • Professor Bennett is always prepared for class, he has a lot of knowledge in the subject and always keeps the class exciting. My favorite class of the course was when you separated the class to represent how Congress works, for me doing this demonstration was very helpful to my learning style.

Critical Thinking about Politics

Summer Evaluations (Online Summer 2019)

Qualitative Feedback from Critical Thinking About Politics Evaluations

  • Every aspect of this course was both entertaining and easy to comprehend. I would recommend keeping the videos, this allowed for much more understanding of the material than simply reading it in the textbook (which is very well priced, and I'm sure we all thank you for being so generous). It allowed us to engage with the news outlets in different situations and understand both sides of the spectrum we were once closed in to.

  • I really enjoyed this course… I enjoyed all of the information, skills and concepts from this course. One thing that I would spend more time on though is bias. A lot of people are bias[ed] and don’t even know it, especially in their writing and they don’t even know it because they don’t know what bias is.

  • I think the overall material for this course was very helpful in teaching a class on critical thinking in politics. I also think doing discussion boards to interact with other students was very helpful… I felt from my own personal experience that the class accomplished the task of informing me on critical thinking in politics. This was the first course like this that I have ever took.

  • I thought all of the major concepts in the course had a fair amount of time on them to be learned properly. I would have liked another week on technology in politics as I found this very interesting as how we access it and all the other information out there.

  • You did a fantastic job making additional resources accessible to us, which in turn helped reinforce the material that we were learning throughout that week. Thank you for a rewarding academic experience… There is not much I would change about this course, especially when you account for the time restriction.
